This great archiver is turning into a two-panel file manager. But what I appreciate is its compression ratio. It can integrate into Explorer shell and FAR.

One of the best archivers. Its interface is handy. Use the Solid archive option to minimize the size of a new archive. But it takes longer to compress and if the archive is corrupted it is more difficult to recover.

This archiver is similar to Power Archiver.

Windows XP treats zip archives as folders (compressed folders). You can have it in other Windows versions. You will need five dynamic libraries: dzip.dll, dzip32.dll, dunzip.dll, dunzip32.dll, zipfldr.dll. Copy them to c:\winnt\system32 and execute the following (Start→Run…): regsvr32.exe c:\winnt\system32\zipfldr.dll. The following message will pop up: DllRegisterServer in [path]\zipfldr.dll succeeded. ZIP-archives will now look like folders (icons will be a bit different), you can treat them nearly like usual folders. To undo this run the same command using /u before the library name, then delete all the five libraries.
Zipfolders are extremely handy to use together with 2xExplorer.

It turns out that you can also save disk space by compressing executables. UPX (Ultimate Packer for eXecutables) is a program that can do it, but it works under command line. This UPXShell is a handy GUI. There are 9 compression ratios, it can compress both DOS and Windows executables. On average it compresses executables by 50%.
Formats supported: EXE, COM, DLL, SYS.
